Chaliponga - Chagropanga
Diplopterys cabrerana
Diplopterys cabrerana (Chagropanga, Chaliponga) is a regular companion to Banisteriopsis Caapi in Ayahuasca brews in much of the Amazon.
Although Psychotria viridis (Chacruna) is more familiar and the most commonly associated admixture plant with the Caapi vine, Chaliponga is prefered by many ayahuascaros through the Amazon in Equador, Western Columbia and Northern Peru and actual use of Chagropanga in Ayahuasca may be more common than Chacruna, overall.
The alkaloid content of Chaliponga can be several times that of Chacruna and some tribes such as the Harakmbet believe that one must "graduate" to Ayahuasca with Chaliponga after four or five Chacruna-prepared Ayahuasca experiences.
